The "Center of Lipid Research, Chongqing Medical University" was established in 2006. It is a joint research centre with UCL Moorhead Lipid Research Laboratory in Royal Free Hospital. The centre was awarded the "Chongqing Innovative Team for Molecular Mechanisms and Clinical Research of Metabolic Diseases" and "Key Laboratory for Lipid and Glucose Metabolism".

The centre currently has a multidisciplinary scientific research team led by 14 professors from hepatology, nephrology, cardiology, endocrinology, diabetes, and basic medical science. The centre has four main research directions, including:

1. Molecular mechanisms for lipid homeostasis.

2. Metabolic inflammation and metabolic diseases (mainly fatty liver diseases, fatty kidney, and atherosclerosis).

3. Metabolic reprogramming and obesity/ insulin resistance.

4. New diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for metabolic diseases.

The centre has published many high-quality papers in core academic journals, including Nature Rev Nephrol, Lancet Diabetes Endocrinol, Nature Metabolism, Circ Res., Hepatology, J Hepatol, J Am Soc Nephrol, Kidney Int, Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol, J Lipid Res, J Bio Chem.

The centre has close connections and collaborations with the UK scientific partners in UCL and Oxford University. We have regular staff/students exchange program and together organized 6 "International Symposium on Lipid Metabolism and Organ Damage" (ISLT). This centre has become a joint hub for lipid research, staff training/exchange and international collaboration.
